TRex 550E - Test flight #3

Settings:
- dialed aileron and elevator 3G gains from 12 down to 11 o'clock
- left rudder gain at 65%

So now there are issues.

Hover in normal mode was still very stable. Slight twist during a collective punch, but not too bad. Twitch is the same - it's there, but not terrible.

Idle-up modes are where the issues appeared. I'm running 2 idle-up modes - idle-up 1 is a flat 80% throttle and idle-up 2 is 100-90-100. As soon as I flipped into idle-up 1, I saw the tail vibration immediately. It looks pretty severe. The CF vertical stabilizer was vibrating like crazy. The small tail twitch that was there in normal mode became noticably more severe - definitely past the point I'm comfortable with. Switched into idle-up 2 and it was pretty much the same, if not maybe a little worse. I tried some pretty strong up / down collective punches and the wobble was definitely still happening. Again, it's not bad enough to cause a loss of control, but it's pretty unsettling. It's almost like I'm waiting for the oscillation to suddenly increase and lose control of the bird completely, but thankfully that never happens.

So now I need to do some thinking about which way to go next. I think what I'll probably do is start by dialing the gyro gain back up to 70 or even 75% to see if I can reduce that tail bouncing (especially in idle-up modes). After that, I may try dialing the 3G gains down between 9 - 10 o'clock to see if I can reduce some of that oscillation during punch-outs.

Also - I'm going to try balancing my tail blades as some have suggested. I'm very curious to see how balanced they are right now. More updates to follow...

I'm running on my 550E a Standard Kit and 5000 mah 40C 6S batteries and my heli fly very stable and strong.

I suggest you do again Tail Servo Limit on 3G and Calibration of 3G too (put throttle stick on half ele and ail limit etc .....).

I suggest you set it up as follow:

- Set 3G gain ail / ele to 10 o'clock;

- Flat normal pitch curve 0 25 50 75 100 and 0 38 70 89 100 on normal throttle curve;

- Flat idle up 1 pitch curve 0 25 50 75 100 and 85 85 85 85 on idle up 1 throttle curve;

- Flat idel up 2 pitch curve 0 25 50 75 100 and 95 95 95 95 on idle up 2 throttle curve;

- To all flight modes put 70% on gyro sense (gain);

- On Swash Mix - ail 60% / elev 60 / Pitch 55 with EXP ACT;
