Currently unavailable on CD (unless you want to fork out $40.00 for a Japanese import), Emitt Rhodes's debut album is just too good to go unheard. Plus, the pops and cracks here only enhance the experience!

Every song on this album is a winner, but here are four that have struck a particular chord with me:

1) "Live till You Die"
2) "You Should Be Ashamed"
3) "Lullaby"
4) "Fresh as a Daisy"

"Fresh as a Daisy" was a minor hit for Rhodes, and today it's his best-known song alongside "Lullaby" (by virtue of the latter's inclusion in the soundtrack of Wes Anderson's THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS).

I found my copy of this great album in a record/vintage store in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

  • I'm not sure why you say this is not available on CD...it is...and for much less than 40 dollars

  • Yeah, I guess I need to update that info since the Hip-O CD has been released. Then again, maybe I need to delete this video entirely since the "point" of it no longer really exists. Hmmm. I'll think about what I want to do.

  • I just bought it! Thanks for the info.

  • Every track on the album 'Emitt Rhodes' is a gem. In time it will eventually establish its true place near the top of the pile, just like Nick Drake did.

Is this the right place to be amazed at what a hugely influential band the Beatles were. So many artists built their sound (and careers) around just one of the hundreds of great ideas that the Beatles had.

  • He HAS! Emitt is currently in the studio, finishing recording what will be his first album since "Farewell To Paradise"! He joined the band formerly known as "Cody Roads" (who are now known as "the Emitt Rhodes Band) and they will be releasing the album SOON! There is also talk about doing some touring, although on a LIMITED (local) Basis!!

  • @Babyhowdy233 - You say "local" touring basis...is that L.A., or where? I live in Austin and I will help set up a gig here if he wants help....we want him HERE for a show!!

btw..."Love Will Stone You" is one of my favorites!! How true...how true ;-))

  • @Babyhowdy233 - This is GREAT news....been a fan of Emitt's since he released the first album back in the late 60's. Paul McCartney WISHES he was as talented in terms of a TOTAL recording artist...Emitt did it ALL....a master! I played his songs on the U. of Maryland radio station, when I was a DJ there in 1971. Looking forward to his next CD....hippee!! He ended up as VP or Prez of A&R at Dunhill, right?

  • had this on 8 track... remember them? good music and good times... thanks for making and sharing.....

  • Emmit Rhodes was the biggest new thing in music in late 1970, then disappeared as fast as he appeared...

  • Thanks for posting. I bought a box set of his about a year or so ago, was very reasonable. It's good to know he's back in the studio again after all these years.

  • My favorite 4: Mother Earth, Fresh as a Daisy, My face on the floor and Textile Factory.. too many.

  • LOVE THIS SONG, JUST LOVE HIS SONGS,i GO BACK TO MY TEEN YEARS, HEALING SONGS, GAVE ME STRENGTH JUST TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING, AND GO TO SCHOOL, FACE THE DAY OR HELPED ME UNWIND WHEN i CAME HOME, HIS MUSIC SAVED ME THROUGH THE HARD AND SAD AND DIFFICULT TIMES AND HAPPY ONES WHEN THEY CAME ALONG, LIFTED MY SPIRITS WHEN I WAS SO DOWN, HE'S AMONG MANY ARTIST THAT KEPT ME GOING, MIXED WITH MY FAITH THAT KEPT ME ALIVE, THE BLEND OF FAITH AND MUSIC, IS WHY I AM HERE TODAY.

  • I love them all; my personal favorite is "You Must Have" Only just discovered Emiit about a couple weeks ago, so I'm still kinda new to him. :P

  • I just bought it through Amazon... it's wonderful
