A study of colorful Chicago author, radio personality, and raconteur Studs Terkel. The program contains footage of Terkel from the 1950's through 2000, when he was 89 years old. Among other things, Studs talks about his late wife Ida, to whom he was married for 60 years, his relationship with writer Mike Royko, and his television show, "Stud's Place." • There is a paucity of Studs Terkel footage on youtube. Please keep posting stuff if you got it!!

PS - I'd love to hear Studs's take on the Barack Obama phenomenon...

  • Glad you like it. We'll try to get more on YouTube when we can, but if you go to the Media Burn Archive's website, we are streaming dozens of full-length programs featuring Studs, and we add more all the time. And keep an eye out for a Studs screening series in September if you live in Chicago!

  • great

  • What a great guy. My dad played softball on the Daily News team with Royko at Grant Park and Lincoln Park. Their sponsor was Billy Goat's. They would go there after the games and Studs and Mike and Tim Weigel and Rick Kogan and Sammy Sianis and a host of newspaper guys from Printers to typesetters to reporters would be there partying and telling stories all night. What a scene. Royko was the Leader of the pack and would have the place in an uproar. Good times.

  • truly thankful this holiday season that you've shared these videos! cheers!

  • STuds I wish you had been a Singaporean. We sure could have used you on our radio! RIP Mr Terkell.

  • Great thoughts from a great man. No BS, just straight-ahead truth from a man that has not only seen it all, but more importantly, has felt it all. Keep on rollin' on Studs.
