NAC D Womens Epee Final Touch! San Jose Courtney Hurley vs Lindsay Campbell. Final point was scored in overtime. However, Hurely believed that the touch was to the floor and not to her knee. I captured this on my iPhone and it appeared that the light went on as the weapon was oriented to the knee. However, when looking frame-to-frame, it does look like the frame with the scoring light on has the hand/arm angled to the floor, while the frame that has the arm angled at the knee is has no light on.

Unfortunately, the video was:
1) Taken at distance.
2) Cell phone camera--not great resolution/contrast.
3) Terrible background.

Therefore, almost impossible to see where the blade is.

What do you think?

  • looks like a clean touch to me

  • at this level of fencing anything can happen and sometimes when the adrenaline is rushing u dont feel the hit....its unfortunate that it had 2 end like that tho

  • 1. grounded strip

    2. floor judges

    3. director and judges say its legit

Courtney Hurley is a huge baby with a disgustingly huge ego. End of story. Nice hat, Court!

  • Every time I pause the video for the light, it always looks like Hurley's leg is back out of range. The video isn't the best quality for a replay, but I would say the point is out

  • Obviously the only time to argue for a touch is before everyone gets off the strip and everyone leaves. Thank you for your comment everyone likes to hear from a coward

  • I think that the distance was close enough to hit, but it looked like the blade was outside. The light went on after the lunge had dropped to floor level. Too bad the instant replay machine broke the day before (I'm assuming it was still broken on sunday).

  • I think Miss Hurley should learn sportsmanship - the time for the protest is after the smile and handshake. Not the histrionics...

  • one more reason to the massive growing pile of reasons why the usfa is a miserable failure of a sports organization
