This video was recorded by You Tube user Chris2112 on a trip to the volcano. The video was filmed on February 25, 2006. Part of Chris2112's description of the video: "This eruption occured in the active north crater of the volcano, and is probably the result of a lava lake inside the cone breaching through the side of the cone, and draining. There are several such cones in the crater."

  • @JeanSBAC The lava is erupted at relatively low temperatures (approximately 500-600 °C). This temperature is so low that the molten lava appears black in sunlight, rather than having the red glow common to most lavas.

  • This is the only active carbonatite lava volcano in the world. Lava is 450-500 ºC with very low viscosity (almost lilke water). Amazing place in Tanzania.

  • this is very interesting and rare, the fact this flow may be only 950 degrees is also boggeling

  • That volcano Looks like its got explosive diahrrea

  • amazing!!!!

  • What a breathtaking view! I´d be scared to death and at the same time too fascinated to move at the same time, I guess (-:

  • Excellent!

  • I agree...lava erupting at 1,112 degrees Fahrenheit is rare.

  • Very cool. Literally. That is carbonatite lava, which has almost no silicon in it, flows like water, and is only about 600 C.
