I think that this man's intentions at the start were good. Seems that he got overwhelmed with this one man operation. A case of good intentions gone bad. Where were the volunteers to help!?! He was trying to do the kind of rescue that everyone at PETA begs people to get involved in. Just was too much. So sad!

TO ALL THAT HAS TOO BE PART OF THIS CLEAN UP. THANKS THE LEON ANIMAL CONTROL. HAS WORKERS ON SIGHT. WORKING 5 PM TO 5 AM A 12 HOUR SHIFT. NOT EVEN LISTED AS ONE OF THE FL. COUNTY IN THE CLEAN UP. THE ANIMALS ARE VERY SICKLY. MOST WOULD DIE IF NOT RESCUED BY THE HARD WORK OF A FEW. THERE STUPPED PEOPLE OUT THERE JUST LIKE THE UNNONE DARTVADER9999 THAT SHOOTS OFF AT THE MOUTH. DONT LET A COWORD THE HIDES AND COMMENT ON THINGS THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT. DARTHVADER9999 YOU NEED TO VOLUNTEER

@heraclid13 Yeah, definitely. He needed to euthanize a lot of the cats there who were dieing to make their lives less painful.
I understand not wanting to put animals down because they weren't adopted, but I don't understand someone who loves animals deciding not to put down animals who are suffering so much.
I hope that a raid of this size shows how bad things can get when unregulated, and people keep a closer eye on shelters.

@NickSparkss No kill sounds warm and fuzzy, but in practice it can be a nightmare. "No kill" is a misleading term. "No unjustified kill" would be better. A responsible, well-run rescue that does euthanize but only when it is medically justified and the most merciful course of action - that is still no kill in my book. Caboodle was no kill under ANY circumstances, and that often meant just killing them a different way, and a much worse way at that.

@KnightCatz A lot of people just shouldn't have pets. A lot of those people essentially dumped theirs on Craig. Not saying all were like that, but a lot. He did not always get a donation from them like they were supposed to give when they brought a cat, but he'd take them anyway. He developed a distrust in people and that's why he wouldn't adopt them out. Can't say I blame him. But at some point you reach a point of diminishing returns and have to draw a line somewhere.

@heraclid13 That's the issue I had, many of these cats had contagious respiratory infections and FIV, and the cats were just roaming around, spreading disease.
A no-kill shelter is a great idea, but many of the independently run ones simply don't have the funding to take care of so many cats. In this case, I would have preferred to see him humanely euthanize sick cats rather than let them die slow, painful deaths from illness.

@NickSparkss Yes, in some cases cats were worse off at Caboodle. Because of the ranch, they got a reprieve from death and the healthy ones were probably pretty happy, but in a setting like that disease can spread like wildfire. I had occasions where I could have taken cats there but would not after having been there/worked there. I know that they may do alright for a while, but that the end of the story would most likely be very grim.

@dorianpenton Got mixed feelings on all this. You're right that some of the loudest critics also are the ones who didn't step up and help make things better. It's true that he couldn't afford vetting so many, but whose fault is that? Why take in so many that you only compound the problem? And with all the $ in the world, it does no good when no records are kept so there's no way of knowing who is due for what and when (and how do you find them even if you chipped them all?).

@AW101690 Yep, certain things must be assumed when dealing with an outdoor environment (temps, other animals,etc.). Lots of coyotes were killed by and people around there and neighboring roving dogs were probably more of a real threat. The coyotes certainly have/had it a lot rougher than the cats. A lot of people suspended common sense and good reasoning and chose to believe what they wanted to believe when they sent cats there. Having helped out there, I would not take a cat there.

Coyotes were a concern - true. It was a coyote buffet - false. Craig got down to 100 cats because so many died - false. A lot suffered needlessly and died - true. He didn't keep records - true. Healthy cats and sick cats were not kept apart - true. Any were struck on the road - doubtful but possible. He made no effort to keep it clean - having no help is no excuse because he didn't even do what he could have one (like throwing needles on the floor instead of using sharps disposal containers

An electric fence would have kept those cats there... oh wait that is too cruel. Actually a barb wire fence could have ... no wait that's more cruel. Maybe hundreds of invisible fence shock collars... darn it that's worse. I guess he should have just nicely asked the cats to stay there. And shot the coyotes that tried to eat his cats ... darn it we can't be harmful when defending against the coyotes. There is no way to stop an outdoor cat from roaming without locking him or her in a cage.
Oh, forgot to mention...I've known Craig for a number of years & spent 2 mnths as a CR volunteer. Personally I don't agree with his no kill policy but it is/was his operation & his choice. He had legally secured status a a non-profit. He had regular veternary visitation & inspection. At any given time he had hundreds of happy and healthy cats offset by 40-60 quarantined cats needing medical attention which he spent hours per day treating. We will soon have 100s of dead Caboodle cats.. Happy?

@boudjiga Yep, and you are just as fucking guilty as he is! Look at the ASPCA, the local news, PETA's pictures and video and then come back her and tell me what a cunt I am.
Go fuck yourself. I'm sure this is probably Nanette,Steve Forrest or some other loser who sat there with your thumbs up your asses while Craig took in more and more cats he couldn't take care of.
