Gobble My Knob!
I'm sure you have all watched the show on Comedy Central called, Ugly Americans?
If you haven't, I suggest you swing by comedycentral.com and watch a few episodes from the first season. Before the game came out I had only seen 1 episode, but I needed to catch up so I would get the references that are scattered throughout the game so I swung by the local Best Buy and picked up the first season.
Being forced to watch the show that when the first time I saw it, I thought was stupid, was a good thing. I fell in love with the TV series! With characters like the Giant Baby Lawyer, Choking Victim, Man Birds and Larry King (yes Larry King -- I can't believe I would say that), I was hooked. Now I was ready to kick some demon butt and prevent the End of Days!
The first thing you will notice that when watching the cut scenes, they overdub photo stills and the videos are not actually animated like the series. This seemed a little off, but they probably had to make space for the game. Once you get past that, the gaming experience is great. The game play style is setup like the classic Gauntlet and Rampage games from back in the day. Using objects (found through destroying garbage cans, benches, etc) like lamps, demon teeth, baseballs, gas tanks and mating bones to take down hordes of flying Man Birds, Trippy Demons, Zombies and massive bosses. Each character has a unique special move and certain objects (weapons) shoot faster and do more damage.
I'm not going to lie; this game is hard (even on easy) and the difficulty increases with each person that joins you in co-op (online of offline). This is where finding demon babies scattered throughout the levels will help you succeed. When you strap a baby on your back and head out to combat (that just sounds wrong in every way), you will get perks like faster xp, more damage and longer lasting power-ups. All of these will help you beat the levels and get all the achievements/trophies.
You will get tons of giggles as the Man Birds fly across the screen dropping number 2's all over the level while shouting "suck my balls," just like on the TV show. As you progress through the level you will collect money which can be used to unlock, art, sound clips and deleted scenes. To top all of this off, once you beat the game, you unlock an entire episode of Ugly American's made exclusively for the game! EPIC for any fan of the show!
Overall I give this game a 4 out of 5.
I wished the levels were longer, more destructible and more levels were included in the game, but what they give you for the price ($9.99 PSN or 800 MSPoints) its well worth the fun and extras you get. If you are a fan or are looking for a new game to play pick it up and gobble some knob!
