Indira Moala was the runner up on Season 3 of NZ Idol, shown on TV2. The 21-year-old is a native of Tonga and a student at the University of Auckland. A talented vocalist, Indira won several major competitions prior to her ascent to stardom on NZ Idol. She is an ex-pupil of Auckland Girls' Grammar School.

Family ties
She is the second eldest sister out of 5. Her older sister, Lesieli, will become the 2007 AUSA President, also possesses great singing ability. On the Top 3 performance show, Indira chose her for the "Star Makeover" as she will soon get married. From video archives, they are both great accordion players, and they always have 'Venus vs. Serena' moments when they competed against each other in various contests. Last but not least, her father is famous for his very long and distinctive side burns. He is also very supportive towards Indira. On Monday 25th June she became a wife to a lovely man.

New Zealand Idol
Auditions/Theatre Rounds
Moala auditioned in Auckland singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". All three judges agreed that she had a strong voice but warned her not to lose those high notes. She was sent to the next round by unanimous decision.
She was then sent through to the Top 36 after being accepted from the group of Top 50. In her next performance, she sang a duet with another woman. The judges weren't impressed by the both of them but still let Indira go through. Next was her rendition of "Say a little Prayer". Iain stables commented that she was going to go very far through the competition.

High praised performances
In response to her stunning performance of Aretha Franklin's "Think", Iain Stables commented that if he could cast one vote, it would be for Indira. All of the judges have stated that she is a very strong contender for the title of NZ idol. She has been critically acclaimed by the public and newspapers abroad.
Also, her Top 4 performance Better Be Home Soon by Neil Finn was thought to be the best performance of the season. In the results show, she sang it again but this time dedicating the song to her mother. At the end, she can be seen in tears.

She may not have as big a top range as Christina Aguilera, but her performance of 'Beautiful' also received great acclaims. 'The Way You Make Me Feel' by Michael Jackson was the song that she sang with Lesieli since they were young. Lesieli also sang this song in this year's September karaoke at the University of Auckland Quad after her win for 2007 AUSA Presidency.
