How would these sound in a dorm room, just for some background music and what not. I would probably drive them off of an old pioneer reciever from the late 70's/early 80's or a AIWA bookshelf reciever. I currently have some older paradigm 5se's. While I listen to mostly alternative rock, as I've seen/read in other reviews the bass response isn't all that great, but with a little amount of EQing do you think they would be tolerable enough for a budget system?

@MMast92 Frankly, I'd go with the Paradigm/Pioneer combo. I own a Pioneer SX-1250 and some Paradigm Phantoms, the V.2 Phantoms with the Pioneer is nothing short of amazing. But if space is a issue, They are a decent little set of speakers, a loudness compensation and a little eq to your liking should be enough esp for low volume levels. If you find that you are wanting to listen loud on a regular basis, I'd recommend getting a sub or something beefier than the B652s.

It is not designed to be used with headphones, building an adaptor to use it with headphones would be at your own risk. But first I'd check partsexpress to see if they had something more suitable.

These amps are awesome. My brother uses this setup and it sounds great for the price. The amp is the real gem, in this case. I couldn't believe how great it sound, considering the low cost and low rated output. You can't argue with the solid performance that this offers!

I'm definitely going to be picking up one of the Dayton Audio amps (probably the APA150 for the auto-on trigger mode).

I have those B652's they are spectacular. I run them off a Pioneer Spec-2 ... 250wpc Class-A with my Archos605's build in Dac playing Uncompressed wav's

If you set them up with space around them for box reverb and far enough apart the imaging is incredible.

Does this amp work for headphones? I have some Audio-Technica ATH AD700s and want to try to reach their potential. Would this amp do anything for these headphones, do you know? Thanks.

@uxwbill The speakers have become my bathroom speakers, driven by the center part of a Panasonic boombox (hey it's almost a technics) They do well in there, sound better than the KLH indoor/outdoor speakers I was using esp in the bass dept. I have yet to figure out what to do with the T amp, other than a fun little toy.

@uxwbill I also drove the B652 speakers with a Technics (surprise!) SA-5170 receiver. I thought they had a lot of high end when driven from the T-amp and less when driven with the Technics receiver.

The T-amp can do what it does (by the way, folks, the DTA-1 also runs from 8 AA batteries) by virtue of its extreme efficiency. It operates similarly to a switchmode power supply.
