(Click on the HQ at the bottom right of the video to watch in High Quality) Astro is available at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter www.wilcopets.org. Astro is a happy-go-lucky, super charming, absolutely adorable little guy. Don't let his small 33 pound size fool you, this guy has a lot of spunk and very brave attitude in a very sweet package! Astro has been working with a 12 year old trainer and they made a fantastic team. Astro is very eager to learn, is patient, and is highly motivated by both treats and attention. He picks up new things very quickly and looks oh-so-adorable doing his tricks with his constantly wagging tail. You will get lots of attention when you are walking Astro around. He has an absolutely stunning smoky blue coat, a cute little size, and tons of personality to boot.
Astro is a moderately active dog meaning he would be happy to go for a hike in the park but would also be thrilled to snuggle up and watch a movie on the couch. He walks nicely on his leash after he's been out of his kennel for a little bit and burned off some energy. And did we mention that he loves to snuggle? You start petting Astro and he will lean right into you to get the full effect. What a sweetie!
Astro was great with all the other dogs in the program when we started but got a little cranky with one of the other dogs the last couple days of the program. We think Astro is part Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) and that breed can have a hard time coping with the stress of the lack of attention and exercise that comes with long-term placement in a kennel environment. Astro has already been at the shelter over two months and really needs to find a home where he can get the love, exercise, and attention he needs. It's like poor Astro has been locked in a cubicle for 2 months and he's getting a little upset with the guy down the aisle who won't turn off his bad music! Astro has always been sweet, loving, and submissive to people. He has done great sharing a kennel with at least 4 different dogs and would be happy in a home with or without another dog. Astro has been very excited about the kitties (barking at them) and should likely go to a home without cats.
Astro will need someone who can work with him on housetraining. Having "little man syndrome", Astro would hike his leg on things to let everyone know he'd been there. He just got neutered a couple weeks ago and that will likely help resolve that problem. Astro is very smart and eager to please so he should get the hang of housetraining pretty quickly with some consistency and without new dogs marking in his space all the time!
Take a look at Astro. He is super eager to do everything...including be your best friend!
For more information about Astro, email dwasielewski@wilco.org or visit www.wilcopets.org.
Astro's adoption fee is $25 (reduced from regular $85 since all our dogs have been in the shelter longer than 30 days) and includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm test, and a microchip. What a deal! Astro's Stats: 10-12 month old neutered male, 33 pounds, Australian Cattle Dog mix?, entered shelter 8/8/09 as a stray

Astro has been adopted by someone who saw his video and also liked his happy tail! Astro has gone to a wonderful home in Austin with a woman who plans to do agility with him. Go Astro!
