I used to take our horses to the ocean weekly. I bought a Wintec saddle, synthetic girth, used a cheaper bridle that wasn't harmed by sea water, and wore clothing that would dry quickly. It was fantastic! nothing like it when the horse suddenly becomes buoyant, your own body lightens, and you have to hang on to the horse's mane as he pulls you along. I once rode along the beach at night under the light of a full moon... no swimming, just trotting or walking along the water's edge... lovely.

God, how I miss doing things like this. Really, no more exhilarating feeling in the world than being on horseback, especially on a horse you know and love, and enjoying a ride in the surf, up the creek, across the river, over hill and dale and on and on into the sunset. Just beautiful. God, I do miss it badly.
