James Kalm has been documenting the work of William Powhida for several years now, and is constantly baffled. The press release states "The directors of Marlborough Chelsea are pleased to announce POWHIDA, a site-specific project by the eponymous artist". Well, I don't even know what the meaning of the word "eponymous" is, but this project/performance enters into the ever changing critique of the art world that has garnered Powhida at turns both enmity and esteem. Underlying POWHIDA is a cynical subversivness that plays on the art world's own narcissism and vanity, characteristics that are in no shortage here in Manhattan.

  • really superficial, conspicuous consumption and narcissism with huge doses of profanity, he got you cursing James. Splain me one worthwhile thing about this guy?

  • @ALTHEGREAT101 He's making you ask questions.

  • @jameskalm

How did I know you'd respond that way, needless to say I love your videos James!! I just found it to be understated, and poorly executed.. If this guy truly wanted to poke fun he shouldn't have been decked out in Tommy Bahama attire. Not to say that I back the rockstar attitude of certain artists in nyc. I just feel this show was a waste. Anyways thank you for continuing to cover these shows Lauren!

  • @maeiraldi This was a professional actor, not William Powhida. It was all staged, and will continue for a couple of more weeks during which time "William" will degenerate into a blithering basket case. (at least that's what I've sussed out)

  • Not clever, not thought provoking or controversial, not even merely humorous. The Fuck was that?!?!

  • @maeiraldi It's about the New York art world, and your criticism shows that you're starting to catch on.

  • if the NY art scene is that shallow I take back anything i ever said about it being a world capitol, or did it die with the death of Clement greenberg?

  • Seriously. Where is mr kalm?

  • horrible acting, for that i say. FAKE AND GAY.

  • Where is the bike? Where is the guy? I am a j. K. Junkie and I need another serve of subtle undertones and dry wit. I wish you were my dad....Is loren powhida? Powhida has a good memory, much better than me. .. Thanks bike.

  • outside of myself, integrity and intelligence are almost dead

  • @jameskalm I ask a lot of questions, but he has not even come close to any subjects worth thinking about. Profanity is an insult to my intelligence and a major spiritual blemish. The best Powhida I have seen is mildly entertaining, but I think too much of art to accept him [ands many others].
