My very first attempt at completing a remix was also my first accepted; you'll notice that sound-wise it's not as adept as my earlier videos (which were recorded long after this one).

It was made back when I still used Drumkit from Hell (I now use Addictive Drums), but still contains the rudimentary aspects of what would later become my sound (quad-tracked chugging guitars, harmonizing leads, fancy schmancy arpeggios). Also, recorded back when I had my Ibanez SZ520 6 string guitar. I know use an Ibanez RG7621 7 string guitar.

OCRemix writeup:
These ARE popular source tunes, so it's especially groovy that Neko's done something different with them, and you can tell from his submission letter but also the mix itself that he's into the game and its music. Sustained strings and mellow electric guits enter, then a shred bed and acoustic kit join in, leading up to the anthematic soaring-lead-over-meaty-chug melody at 0'23", at which point, I'm basically sold. What holds my interest and KEEPS me sold for the rest of the mix is the arrangement, which could have rested on its laurels and still resulted in a pretty awesome track, but actually takes the time to develop, getting more metal at 1'49" with sick arpeggio riffs and head-banging drums then backing off at 2'11" before building up again.

It's a brick house, baby, and since Justin bumped up the production, it's a killer follow-up that proves he can fly solo and make some pretty damn great stuff. I just got a raise today, this is the second great mix we've posted, and we're not even a full week into 2009 yet... pretty auspicious stuff!

  • Damn amazing song, great job there but... i never heard something similar in the game, only the last parts of the song seem to have parts of Xenogears soundtrack but the guitar parts i dont remember them, and i played it for the first time 2 months ago, by the way my favorite game of all time!

  • The source material is in the tracks "Awakening" and "Omen". At around 49 seconds in Awakening, the string section is the rhythm guitar, and the vocal the lead melody. In Omen, the harp melody is the clean guitar later on, and the string melody is the lead guitar near the end of the song.

  • holy cow this was awesome, sounds like a cross between omen and awakening themes. this definately sounds like "classic" hits worthy...

  • Every remix I hear from OCRemix kicks ass. You guys really kick ass, and I rock out to your stuff on almost a daily basis. This one especially stands out.

  • Been listening to remixes from OCR for many years, and neko, yu rock sir. Like pretty much everything you've done on there. This is my favorite though.

  • I've had this and the Lufia song in my "Battle Music" playlists for years now. It never fails to get the blood rushing.

  • Omfg this is fricken amazing....

  • HOLY..FUCK. this is absolutely freaking amazing. Would you mind if I used it in a video? Of course I'd credit you. I must..use..this..this is absolutely amazing.

  • Thumbs up if you want this to get 0 dislikes. :D

  • nice mixing!:)

  • Just want to add to what others have already said: absolutely awesome. Superior to every track on the Humans & Gears album but not a knock against that.

  • anyone that whant the tune just need a little use of their brain. lol!

google: audacity. its free! then get yourself an audio cable with standard jacks (2 way male jacks wire) plug on of it to your speaker and the other wire to your microphone jack or line-in jack. (pink is microphone.)

then start recording the music as you play it from here. XD

"if you can hear it, then you can rip it" -monsterrun

  • Nekofrog you rock, this is one of my favorites. Some of the remixes of awakening don't even sound like it. It would kick ass even more if they put something like this in the game, it has passion.

You know you should try to find a way to pull of the oracle from secret of mana over there at ocremix. people are afraid of it, cause it would be a hard one to pull off. But who ever does, and they do a good job is the music god :P
