my guess:
The opening card pick is a forced king of diamonds (of which i think there are two to start).
The signed card gets palmed and placed behind the queen of diamonds in the "sealed" deck in his pocket at some point.
The "sealed" deck box is gimmick'd: the plastic on the end is cut off, and the the rest of the plastic, including the seal, is just for show. The bottom is open, allowing for half of the cards to stick out, starting at the queen of diamonds, making for easy insertion.
