[Ch. 46, Pt. 1: Awkward Situations...]
-Nick's POV-
Me and Sarah sat on the same bench we sat on the last time we were here. She rested her head in my shoulder.
"Its so peaceful," I said.
"I know. You know those times when everything is in a blur, and you just need to stop? There's this tree back home, and in the tree, there's three branches where two people can sit comfortably. I go to that tree a lot, and just appreciate nature. It's the most peaceful thing. And I think about some things, but I make sure not to think about anything that is bothering me. Sometimes I'll be there for multiple hours. And when I come down, I don't remember anything that went on in my head up there, or anything that I was thinking about in that tree, but I do remember the quiet, and how peaceful it really was up there."
"I wish I had a tree like that," I said.
"Well, if you come visit me back home, then I might let you come in the tree."
"Might?"
"Yep. That's MY tree," she said, and laughed.
Then I saw it. Oh no. And another one. And another one. They were camera flashes. From those paparazzi. Sarah saw them, too.
"Sarah, come on. Let's go," I said.
She understood immediately. We got up and started walking rather fast toward my car. We got in and I drove back to the house.
"Sorry about that," I said
"It's alright. You know, I would actually be surprised if that didn't happen."
"Oh well, I guess you won't be surprised often," I said.
When we got back to the house, Mom, Dad, and Frankie were home.
"Hey, you two," Mom said. "Did you have fun?"
"Yes, we did," Sarah said.
"Until the paps caught us," I said.
"It's alright, Nick. I don't mind too much," she said.
Mom smiled. I could tell she liked her. "Well, it's nice to see an optimist around here. Do you want to stay around for dinner? I'm starting in a little bit."
"Sure, thanks," Sarah said.
We sat around watching cartoons with Frankie until Kevin and Sarah came back with a whole bunch of shopping bags.
"Wow," I said.
About ten minutes later, Joe and Dolly came in.
"Hey, guys. Kevin, Nick, Sarah, Ray-Ban," he said.
"Ray-Ban?" Sarah asked.
Joe scoffed. "That is like, the best nickname anyone could ever have. And the best part is, I made it up all by myself."
"That is a sweet name," Sarah agreed.
Then Mom came in. "I'm starting dinner if you girls would like to stay for a little while."
"Sure, do you need any help?" Rachel asked.
"No, it's okay, you go on and do something."
"No, really, we insist. We can help," Dolly pressed.
"Well if you want to you can."
I stood up. "So you know what that means for the rest of us."
Joe raised a fist in the air. "Halo!"
Frankie gave Joe a high five. "Yes!"
Then Joe, Kevin, Frankie, and I ran upstairs leaving the girls and Mom in the kitchen.
-Rachel's POV-
So, Ms. Jonas is really nice. She is the sweetest person, and you can tell she cares about her boys. You can probably talk to her about anything. She treats you like you are her own. And I love that about her. She asked us about our personal lives, and we were all talking and having fun. Mr. Jonas eventually came home, too. We ended up making pasta, fish, and salad. For desert we made sugar cookies. When it was time to eat we called the boys down, and the occasional "Oh, man," and "You cheated!" and "Stop shooting me!" turned into a bunch of footsteps coming down the stairs. Joe, unsurprisingly, was the first person to get to the kitchen.
"Geez, it smells delicious," he said.
"Well, it probably tastes better than it smells," Ms. Jonas said.
We all sat down and Mr. Jonas said a prayer. Then we started eating. The food was absolutely delicious. We sat there talking, and then Frankie spoke up.
"So, I got a question."
"What's up, Frank?" Nick said back.
"Who's dating?"
I'm sure that Joe could have spit out all the food in his mouth. Instead, he tried swallowing it, which was a bad idea, because he started choking. Dolly asked if he was okay. Kevin started laughing nervously, and Nick and Sarah blushed.
"Franklin," Ms. Jonas said. "Don't ask that question when we're eating."
"I'm not dating, Frankie," Nick assured him.
Kevin followed after. "I'm not."
Frankie looked at Joe. "I'm dating, Frank," Joe said.
Frankie shrugged. "Thats good. I like Dolly. At least it isn't Taylor. I didn't like her."
Dolly made a slight frown and then caught herself. You know, the look where youre like, "Um, yeah, I don't know what this is about, but I have a strong feeling that I should know." Geez, man. There was a tension in the room.
