23. To The Sky-Robin Thicke (my adlibs)

Okay, Robin Thicke IS the TOTAL package. Soooo rare. Sometimes I just sit around and practice harmonizing with other singers. Robin Thicke is a new favorite because he is reminiscent of that old school vibe, putting ALL of his heart & soul into his music (no gimmicks). Personally, I think he's the BEST thing (since Marvin Gaye) to happen to music in a long, long time. The SOUL that you feel pouring out of this man simply excites me.

There's no denying his looks, no denying his spirit (it's all in those eyes), and certainly no denying his music or his voice (esp when he speaks! OMG!). For me, he's so much more than the total package. He sings with such a passion, straight from the heart; so full of emotion.

When I saw him FINALLY getting the recognition he deserved LONG after the 1st album, he re-inspired me. I saw through Robin that it was okay to simply be YOU. No need to "dance" your way through a vocal. It's all in the pauses, those little silences, the breaths, what he didn't say. He appears to be quite "humble" about his God-given talents, and did I mention he's not bad on the eyes either! LOL! :-) To me, there is NOTHING sexier than a guy who exudes such humility while seemingly not realizing just how suave/gorgeous he really is (without trying to be).

So enough about Robin! (Can you tell I'm a fan?!). LOL. Not infatuated, but *praying hands* "God, will you PLEASE make more like him?" LOL! If you haven't heard his albums or any of his live performances on YouTube, then you are in for a real treat!

Soooooo, this is me sitting in my bathroom just warming up, totally unrehearsed. I was thinking about a song (The Real Me), which I was going to do for my friend, Bingboy. You see him at the start of my Real Me video, which is a clip of a very gracious & kind video he'd made for me. Some commenters had said some really, really ugly things to him which he shared with me. So THIS song was great for putting me in that "zone" because of its inspirational message about keeping your head to the sky during rough times.

I'll admit that some of my singing sucks, most thankfully doesn't. But for spur-of-the-moment free-styling, it's not all that bad. I like to practice breathing techniques and adlibbing like this to see what I would have done had I been randomly pulled onstage to sing with Robin (yeah, a fantasy duet!). I do videos like this to critique myself and to work on spontaneous adlibbing. Anyway, I do hope you like at least some of it! And, yes, I'm intentionally singing softly most of the time. For me, it's more about the emotions expressed and maintaining the integrity of a song, rather than being loud. But, if you have to hear "loud,"just go to the end of my Whitney song! :-) Thanks!!
