I have a feeling that back in 92 the train noise sounded different as it does these days. Maybe it has to do with the continuously welded tracks.

You are correct. The sounds on trunk lines with welded rails is quite different.

I am afraid not. Because we met the Hapa-Ahmedabad Intercity (extended version of the Rajkot-Ahmedabad Intercity) at Surendranagar.
