  • I have one of these. Not bad! They have 21 frets, just like MusicMan ones, not 22 (just count ;-)

The sound is NOT like a Stingray. The soapbar pickup gives ita different type of sound, however it does sound good. I ended up installing a proper MM style pickup (Seymour Duncan SMB5A) for which I had to route a larger pickup cavity and also enlarge the pickguard hole, but was well worth it.

  • @josenet2006 Whatever way mines is set up and the amp its played through makes it sound like a stingray. Mines is also not used so it is in its 'new' condition, the only time ive played it is when I had a little go on it after i got it set up and tuned. After playing it I decided 5 strings just werent for me so I put it in a case and set it away and continued playing four string basses

  • If you need to sell a bass, use Remote Lister we can help you make your ebay posting quickly and easily

  • @ConorSomerz If I were you I'd try to post some soundclips too. Video yourself playing it. No need to show off technique or anything, just show the sound. I think it'll help you sell it, because like I said, even stock it sounds pretty good.

  • @ConorSomerz Not saying the Stagg sounds bad, not at all. I liked mine stock enough. But just like a telecaster doesn't sound like a stratocaster, that ceramic soapbar does not have the Stingray characteristic sound.

As for the price comment... good luck to you LOL! if you can sell it at that price, power to you. But you'll need luck. It may be "as new", but the minute it leaves teh shop it's lost 1/3 of the value, just like a car. All the best! LOL

  • @ConorSomerz The pickup type is a HUGE part of the Stingray sound. Because you have a soapbar in teh correct position you do have some of teh character... but it is unmistakeably NOT a Stingray sound. I can only suspect you haven't played/listened to Stingrays well (not trying to attack you! Just a remark). I have played several and own two Stingrays, 4 & 5 string.

After I put the MM type humbucker it sounded much more Stingray-like.

  • I also installed a cheap 3-band preamp off eBay (for which I had to make a battery cavity on the back)...

The preamp does not sound like the MM, but it still sounds near enough and it's a good sound.

They're about £180 right now, so you may be asking a bit too much, but good luck. Nice bass.

  • Where`s the sound?

  • all it needs is a preamp, better pickup, and a series/split/parallel switch
