  • @Poldark3 She was young, beautiful and inspiring but thrown into the position of leadership that she was ill equipt to handle as well as the man who was to become king at that time. Its too bad she became a symbol of the French Revolution , I mean all that was unfair. THere were many books writen about her and what happened , in history it was the late 1700s, that really isn't that far off if you think about it. History repeats itself so its a good idea to study it.

  • She was such a fascinating woman, deeply misunderstood, I feel. Love Norma Shearer as well!

  • Her Majesty was a strong, brave woman, and a true queen. She was also loyal to her family, staying by her husband's side when she could have escaped to safety. She is my ideal person because of how well she handled everything in her life, and I wish I could have the strength of character that she did. God Bless Marie-Antoinette, Vive la Reine!

  • @papermermaid NO! You are wrong. Queen Marie Antoinette was Queen of France; her duty was to the King and to provide an heir to the throne of France. THAT is what Queen consorts did in 18th century Europe. The King set policy; NOT the Queen.

  • @fairgirl7, that is what I thought. Exile would have been merciful. (I thought of Canada.) The guillotine was too much.

  • @papermermaid Actually the american revolution was before the french...

  • No one argues about freedom and democracy; it was the way the French had theirs! They could have exiled Their Majesties; but NO, execution. THAT murder of their sovereigns opened the doors to the reign of terror and the genocide in the Vendee. FACT, not fiction!

  • That barbarism sparked freedom around Europe and was directly inspired by the American Revolution against Monarchy and Royal domination. Americanism, democracy, and republic rule were legitimized because of that barbarism. Marie Anntoinette had pretty dresses, but she did nothing for freedom. That is what a leader is supposed to do...encourage freedom.

  • Of course her husband, Louis 16 was influential as part designer of the Guillotine

  • God Bless and Keep Her Most Christian Majesty, Queen Marie Antoinette. A prayer for her, the King and all the victims of barbarism and violence.
