It's never about the score on the piece of paper. 20 years from now, no one will remember what score they received, nor will they care. What they will remember, though, is the most important thing: the memories forged with their corps. They will remember their hard work and commitment, working in the sun for months, sweating in a living hell. For what? To perform. If you have never marched, you will never know the feeling. The adrenaline, the exuberance. That alone is reason enough to be in it.

@SweetlyDissonant I concur with the fact it is just that, "we have the shared experience" of marching DCI. As far as it being better, I have to disagree, but that is my opinion, and to be honest...I don't believe the activity will make it 20 years from now. at the rate they are going it will cost a kid $15,000 to march. The value of Drum Corps is truly there, but the activity has changed to exactly, it is only about the kids at this point, because the activity /essence of Drum corps is DEAD!

@Ibanez3789 I'm a competitive person, by nature. Besides, the hornline hated our staff, and the staff hated us. Thanks to that, lots of rifts were formed between corps members. Plus, I made the mistake of starting a relationship on tour, and she would NOT stop bitching about everything... I'm sure lots of people can relate to that one ;)

@Ibanez3789 And I don't expect everyone to agree with me, you've your own opinions. But it's unfortunate that you care more about the score than the corps experience.

@SweetlyDissonant As a former member of a corps that got screwed by the judges more times than I can remember, I completely disagree with you.

@embuck You're right when you point out that drum corps has evolved over time. That doesn't mean it's not drum corps, though. The corps' musical venue has changed also. And for the better, I believe. I don't think the audience would appreciate hearing Gregorian chants out on the field. And in 20 years, who knows? Perhaps we'll have three-dimensional dot sheets. All I'm saying is, people don't realize the value of involvement in drum corps anymore. It's about the experience, not the score.

@SweetlyDissonant, We all go thru the same thing, no matter what "corps" you marched. We're all a much bigger family. However, this activity, is not Drum Corps, but merely a shell of what it was. But, that is merely symantics. My point was merely to "beg to differ" about the concept that 20 years from now no one will remember"...as you probably are aware 20 years from now this activity probably won't exist. I know the activity was much more prominent 20yrs ago.

Each Corps earn there places... I have been involved for a long time and to be honest with you Crown has a great show with some level of inconsistency , Cavaliers they are 90 % drill and everything else follows,,, Cadets chuck a baritone in Atlanta, I got to see first hand and BD show is so clean..... All these corps deserve a standing ovation at the end of each show.. they work so hard, we are here to enjoy them and let the judging be done by the experts... <3

@koalababy0220 What corp does your son even march and what instrument
-
@Hector95100 Drum Major, Asst Drum Major, Guard Captain, Asst. Guard Captain.
i appreciate your insight-and yes my son loves his corp. i did ask him if he considered BD? his response---"i wanna earn my ring mom-not have it given to me" true BD is clearly good, but seriously, you dont think the judges favor them? Crown clearly won 2009-and cavies had an amazing show last year--both corps in my opinion far better--btw--all the corps work hard and have skill

@koalababy0220 Who knows if they'll win this year, it's still a three horse race. I don't beiieve BD wins because of politics. They win because they have the staff and talent to know how to do it. Having an "easier" show doesn't mean that the members are less talented. When I look at BD, I see how mature of a group they are too. Like it or not, I think they're the most mature corps out there. I also believe that they are one of the best corps on the field this year.
