Isn't JAXA putting in a probe to investigate Jupiter's magnetic field and Russia putting in a lander to do in situ studies of Europa? Respond plz.

Here’s a response from Cassini Project Scientist Bob Pappalardo:
“Indeed the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) has expressed interest in a Jupiter Magnetospheric Orbiter spacecraft as part of EJSM, which might then also explore a trojan asteroid in the vicinity of Jupiter. Also, Russia is considering a capable lander to Europa, which may follow onto EJSM. If these exciting ideas come to fruition, the international exploration of Jupiter and its moons would benefit greatly.”

What about Enceladus? It has geysers, so could it also have an ocean?

Here is a response from Bob Pappalardo, Study Scientist for Europa Orbiter of the Jupiter Joint Science Definition Team:
Yes! The existence of the geyser-like jets at Enceladus--which spew water vapor and ice crystals into space--does not alone demonstrate the existence of an internal ocean, but the jets do tell us that Enceladus is very active today.

Other recent data from the Cassini spacecraft, especially the salty chemistry of these geyser-like jets, suggest that Enceladus probably has a liquid water ocean. From Enceladus we can learn more about how Europa works, and vice versa. However, differences between Europa and Enceladus need to be considered when making comparisons, including that the two moons are different in size, and the activity at Enceladus may be relatively short-lived while that at Europa is probably much longer lived.

If humanity would stop killing each other over silly mythological beliefs we'd have all kinds of money to pour into missions like this.

Totally awesome! I didn't know there could be oceans anywhere but on Europa! That mission would be SO exciting! 5 stars! : )

Yeah but without mythology, what would we name all these moons?

One man's mythology is another man's science. I agree people shouldn't kill each other in principle, but it's arrogance (not mythology per se) that leads to hasty and inhuman decisions - and scientific arrogance is no exception.

Religion is neither neccessary nor unavoidable.
The solution is called education.
