  • The "Phantom of the Opera" shown the evening this was taped was the 1962 Herbert Lom version (a former WNBC-TV mainstay); WOR-TV had the 1943 Claude Rains version at the time of this clip.

  • @wmbrown6 it was the lom version.

  • THE TRADITION CONTINUES...

  • Lom was best remembered for his portrayal of Sellars' Crazed Boss in those "Pink Panther" films!

  • Christmas comes to YouTube a tad early...

  • For those of you have been seen that I uploaded the video from WPIX-TV "Yule Log" with holiday music from the Disneyland and Walt Disney World which is the "Main Street Holiday Area Music". I put them together to make this a holiday festive. If you want to see it, go to my channel and see for yourself.

  • Love that Christmas logo and the music. So nostalgic. I miss 11 alive.

  • @tapthatt2012 - Which was what I was saying. WPIX was the one with the Lom version after WNBC's rights expired.

  • @MSTS1 - Plus the voice of Bill Biery topping it off. However, it seems the titles (not only this "Christmas Eve Specials" card, but also "Holiday Movie Special" and "Sunday Afternoon Movie") came courtesy WPIX itself, even with the "slinky" animation from Dolphin.

  • Christmas 1979. I kinda got mixed feelings. While this brings back nice nostalgic feelings, not a good Christmas or year for me. I was 10 years old. My parents had permanently split a few years earlier. Mother was an abusive psychotic who got custody of us kids. We were also on welfare (read: dirt poor). Couldnt afford a Christmas (presents, tree, ornaments, etc), so didnt have them. The only thing we could afford to do was watch all those Christmas themed specials on tv because that was free.

  • @dyinglikeflies I feel for you. We were poor too, but we did have a 25 inch color tv. It was a wedding present to my parents from my fathers parents. My grandfather was well to do as he owned his own trucking company, so he could afford that kind of present. My parents split up for good less than ten years later, and my mother got custody of us kids as well as the color tv. And boy, did i ever get ALOT of mileage out of that tv from the 1970s-early 80s. I'm so glad it was there.
