what mossmotors is describing is also a dead ringer for a common honda problem relating to their fuel pump relays. the soldering joints on that relay for certain generations of cars tended to fracture and supposedly that fracturing was affected by heat -- a hot summer day or if the engine was run and the stopped and then shortly tries to start up again. the engine would crank but no ignition and would run only after waiting a few minutes for the car to cool down.
@td1238 I believe vapor lock is my issue I have 4 barrel carb It runs perfect at first but go to restart and I have to hold the gas to keep it running happens worst on hot days where can I find heat Sheild where do I put it
@s0meGuyMarlyMar Your Saturn is most likely not getting vapor lock. What is likely happening is that either the crank sensor is opening up when it gets very hot, or the ignition module is failing when it gets too hot. When your car won't start, remove two of the spark plug wires from either the left or right coil. Have someone crank it over and watch for a spark. If no spark, then one of the two items I mentioned is faulty. It is not uncommon for the crank sensors to open up when hot.
Very nice informative video. I'm suffering vapor lock with my 98 saturn wagon. Worst part is the car is dark green, absorbs more heat on the hood, and it sucks. But of course starts up again after 15-20 minutes. An it just started this summer season, no other past summers.
But I can't tell if I have a heat shield or not. Where would this heat shield go and what's a good brand/website? Please help!
Excellent 3 Videos.....One item you didn't touch on was the poor engineering design of putting Metal Gas Lines too close to the exhaust system. this was a very Common problem with many older American cars like the Dodge Darts...the simple solution was to cut the metal line out and replace / reroute it with Rubber fuel line hose., away from the exhaust system.
