Allegro scherzando: E major → C Minor → C major
The last movement opens with a short orchestral introduction that modulates from E (the key of the previous movement) to C, before a piano solo leads to the statement of the agitated first theme. After the original fast tempo and musical drama ends, a lyrical theme is introduced by the oboe and violas. This second theme maintains the motif of the first movement's second theme. After a long period of development tension is built up considerably. Near the end, Rachmaninoff restates the second theme in loud, fortissimo orchestration. After this, a fast, ecstatic coda draws the piece to a close, ending in C major.
Brief Encounter is a 1945 British film directed by David Lean about the mores of British suburban life, centring on a housewife for whom real love (as opposed to the polite arrangement of her marriage) was an unexpectedly "violent" thing. The film stars Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. The screenplay is by Noël Coward, and is based on his 1936 one-act play Still Life. The soundtrack prominently features the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, played by Eileen Joyce.

EILEEN JOYCE is one of my favorite pianist. This record is anthologic. She played with a great passion and I dare say it´s the most brilliant performance of this concerto. Thanks a lot for posting. You could write her name on the tags.

Huge virile rendition by The Master himself. I thougt I heard other less-virile vesions by Al_Rakhman. David Lean, to his credit, aligned himself with greatest exceeding even his own
