This scene is an absolute classic. It is a metaphore for every kind of religious belief, transponed to our economy dominated era. Howard Beale, the chosen one! What fun it must have been to write and play this scene! 'I have seen the face of God'. Unsurpassed.
you're missing the point. it's about money, not religion. the tone is religious, the subject is materialism at its core. money. just like pink floyd said.
This really is the order of things today, isn't it. But awareness is essential to fighting apathy. Apathy is the enemy. Knowledge and awareness of the scam is key. It's true, you must make a decision to live a true life, surrounded with friends and family and real, tangible love. Not the constructed false reality they are constantly and mercilessly selling you 24 hours a day. Wake up to it and create your own reality. And, most importantly.... don't shop at Walmart.
This is what this movie is all about...the manipulation of the "I'm Mad As Hell" rage for corporate profit. My favorite line in the movie? "We need that Saudi money bad." How prescient! How 2009.
