2008 Seal Hunt - Canadian Coast Guard Rams Sea Shepherd

An historic day and a huge victory for the seals.
Today is a day to celebrate. The European Union has slammed shut the door on trade in the products of the commercial seal slaughter.

The Canadian government used every trick in the book to try to derail the ban: massive lobbying, misinformation, and even threats of trade reprisals. But the EU stood its ground and honored its citizens opposition to this trade in cruelty. By doing so, the EU has saved millions of seals from a horrible fate.

In this video The Sea Shepherd vessel, a private yacht registered in the Netherlands and sailing in international waters outside the Canadian 12 mile limit, was twice rammed by a Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker vessel in order to prevent the Sea Shepherd crew from documenting the 2008 seal slaughter.
Initially the Canadian government claimed that they didn't ram the Farley Mowat. Next they admitted to 'grazing' her. Finally, they are now claiming the Farley Mowat rammed their vessel! This despite the fact that the Farley Mowat was actually stationary when rammed for the second time!
Fortunately, the Sea Shepherd are careful to video all such encounters in order to show the world the lengths the Canadian government are prepared to go to in order to conceal the horror and brutality of their annual seal 'hunt'.
The EEC are currently considering a Europe-wide ban on seal products.
The sooner they introduce this, the better.

this damn boat had no right to be in our waters...... why the hell is it no one can accept that those waters are canadian controlled..... And while you damn hippies stop people from hunting seals people around the world starve to death because there is not enough food and then some go on to say they would like to see the fishermen killed because they killed seals..... Animals have been killed to eat since the beginng.... why the hell is it such a big deal now??

You're missing the point completely.

The 'big deal' is, for one, the seals aren't killed for food. In almost all cases their corpses are left on the ice to rot and only the skins are used. What for? Oh, such essential items such as wallets, handbags and slippers!

Civilised peope worldwide also object to the inhumane killing methods used which often lead to severely wounded seals escaping to suffer a slow, painful death and others are skinned whilst still alive.

The Canadian Coast Guard are a bunch of pussies for allowing this to happen. They should have arrested the Sea Shepherd's entire crew and seized their ship. The Sea Shepherds are criminals. People have been depending on whaling and the seal trade for hundreds of years. It's their livelihood. In all the years that whaling and sealing has been going on there are still no depleted seal or whale populations. One country whaling cannot kill that many whales. Common sense.
