the problim is, he WASN'T using an ad homenim fallacy. it is not exactly just insulting an opponent. to say "you are an idiot" is not an ad homenim fallacy. "you are an idiot, and that is why you are wrong" is.

what's more, claiming someone is wrong entirely just because of an ad homenim attack, or a mistaken one, is just as much a fallacy as an ad homenim.
