music is not a visual thing, and the fact of his expressions shouldn't be the matter, but they are funny to look at but it just shows he is putting his feelings in conducting the orchestra which reflects in the sound that is being produced.
ok... first off, amazing song, played perfectly, yadda yadda yadda. awesome.
but really... i would kill myself if that guy was my conductor... is he actually conducting at all? is there a purpose besides comic relief for him to be up there?... there are times when hes not even on the beat... just like... gives up, and catches the next down beat. lol...
While I agree that the conductor is a little eccentric, I wouldn't go as far as to say he's off the beat. A lot of times in videos like this the audio isn't perfectly synced with the video and that's because light travels faster than sound, so the camera's seeing before it's hearing. I'm not claiming to be a YouTube video expert or anything, but that could perhaps be the case here. Just thought I'd throw it in there. :P

I'd have loved to have seen more of the strings swaying after 4:00
