Inside Story - EU sanctions on Zimbabwe to remain -14 Sep 09

Following the first visit to Zimbabwe by EU delegates in seven years, the EU has said that sanctions against Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's president, and his most loyal officials will remain in force until more is done to implement the country's power-sharing agreement.

The delegates held talks with both Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai, the country's prime minister, and raised their concerns over human rights violations and the slow pace of reform.

The sanctions include a travel ban on Mugabe and 200 of his closest Zanu-PF officials, and a freeze on their assets in the EU.

But are these measures helping or should the West re-engage with Zimbabwe as it struggles towards change?
