Youtube and "WMG" are in a legal battle therefore Warner Music Group silenced some music and at the same time also Kelbus telling his story because the sound track included part of a Phillip Glass recording WMG owns. If there were a reasonable way to license the music I would, there isn't. But, It would likely cost thousands of dollars and that's money I'd rather use to document more stories like Kelbus'. However, I have some new public domain footage and sound from the National Archives and the new edit is now posted minus Phillip Glass. I can't repost the video without losing the link therefore I'm pointing towards a reposted video. I have no intention of dealing with WMG on this matter therefore please see the new version of this at the link above. I did write to Glass' agent and he assured me that Glass himself didn't have the time or inclination to shut down the sound on a tribute video for a Vietnam Veteran.
--- original text starts here:
I went looking for my dad's brothers during the annual Vietnam Veterans reunion in Kokomo, Indiana. My dad, Jerry Hogan, served two tours (as a door gunner and Huey and sometimes Loach crew chief) with the B Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry from 1969 to 1971 at Quan Loi and Bear Cat. My dad lives in California.
I didn't find anyone who knew my dad but I did meet a lot of amazing Veterans and one of them was Joe Kelbus who served in 1967 and 1968 with the A Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry. A Troop is the sister unit to my dad's.
Joe was very cool and spent quite a bit of time educating me about the activities of his and my dad's unit and I videotaped part of the conversation to send to my dad.
I learned a couple weeks ago that Kelbus has passed onto the Fiddler's Green and I've posted this video to thank him and honor him. He is a true American Hero and was a nice guy too.
My dad said when I went to Kokomo to tell them my dad was in B Troop and I would be welcomed like a son. He was right.
Thanks Joe!
"I'm Greg Reynolds the one Joe refers to as 'Hippie'. I still live in California (haven't been in the water for ten years). Joe was a good friend of all of us (we still communicate and have reunions).
I appreciate you posting the clip. I didn't realize he did it and was surprised to see him and than he mentions my name... wow, what a trip. T hanks, Greg
Cheers Joe, we all miss you."
