Multisystemic therapy in water first meeting and after three months!
INFO www.terapiatma.it www.terapiamultisistemica.it www.amicospeciale.it
Multisystemic Treatment in Water (TMA) was defined as a therapy developed by us in the natural environment (public pool) with a theoretical model and a structured methodology through phases, which also uses techniques cognitive, behavioral, relational and direction motor. This therapy is aimed at individuals with autism, pervasive developmental disorder and communication disorders. It takes place in a public swimming pool (natural setting) and goals explicit and implicit purposes.
The explicit purposes, which also shape the activity, are teaching to swim and know how to adapt to the rules of the pool.
The implicit purposes of the therapy are to improve the ability of the players around the world in order to increase the quality of their lives.
The ultimate goal of therapy is not the teaching of swimming, or using it for pleasure or recreation, even if the game and being well together are used as part of the relationship and facilitating the management of emotions. Swimming is used as a vehicle to achieve therapeutic goals and implement the process of socialization and integration with the peer group. The child who learns to swim during the intervention can redefine the relationship with the therapist and with other children.
Achieved independence, in fact, the person who initially showed only avoidance and removal, can now show, independently, an intentionality relationship with the therapist and with the possible integration group. When the subject is about to learn swimming activities, feel free to explore the water environment and able to interact in the latter.
Using these new capabilities will acquire self-esteem and a sense of self-efficacy supported and reinforced by the therapist and family.
n summary, the clinical application of TMA, promotes learning and development of the autistic child in emotional, cognitive, behavioral, sensory-motor, social and communicative.
The TMA is implemented through a planned and conscious interpersonal process designed to influence behavior disorders and relational means purely psychological verbal and nonverbal in view of the objectives defined, which may be the reduction of symptoms or change in communication skills.
This methodology is based on human relations and technical and experimental procedures. Therefore the proposed modification of cognitive schemata, behavioral, and emotional interaction, and a psychoeducational side in order to give management elements to the family in a sort of co-construction of functional diagnosis, which reflects the actual ability of the child.
TMA treatment has medium and long term goals, centered on the changes of the person who set the conditions to define "therapeutic" intervention.
The TMA should not be the only course of action nor restrict or conflict with others, but we should give a global action, sharing the goals. Treatment should be part of an educational therapeutic intervention of a multidisciplinary team.
We presume that autism has a multifactorial and multidisciplinary interventions are themselves. Not yet been identified single cause of autism, there are many professionals who deal with training and in different ways: doctors, psychologists, speech therapists, psychomotor therapists, educators, rehabilitation technicians.
It is clear that to succeed you need specific interventions that take into account the individuality of each person and the context in which it is located, also requires a relationship and dialogue between the various professionals involved in the patient with this syndrome. In this way, all share the successes and failures, limitations and possible changes in order to identify a common path.
