Your eye works in a widescreen format...........

  • I hate that DVD's are release with that pan and scan direction, its aweful but I really wish they would shoot films full frame

  • @Jacestarwind Movies are filmed in all types of ratios. 2:35/39/40:1 is common, but 1:85:1 is still the most common.

  • @MaidenFan24568 What you're watching is an even wider screen than 16:9 (or 1.78 : 1) Movies use 2.39 : 1 Which is wider to fit the theater screens. Eventually consumer TVs will be out with that aspect ratio.

  • SO you can see more with widescreen then, ok fair enough but whats up with the black bars above and below, even on my widescreen tv i get those ?

  • Widescreen for ever after Full screen GET RIDE OF ITTT!!!!!!!!

  • what is this song? I love it. Want to know name of it.

I'd suggest doing some actual research before making such a laughably absurd comment. You're assuming all films are shot in "Super 35", which isn't true. Only some flicks like T2 and Air Force One use this, and the bars are added in to mask out obstructions, like boom mics. It's also used to make fullscreen transfers easier.

However, other films are NOT shot that way, and the rectangular image is IN FACT the entire picture. The Matrix was one of those films. There is no scam.

  • The widescreen format is all a fraud, it is only sales strategy ...

This format appeared in films by the need for film producers to compete with television, it really such a long recording there, it really does is crop the image up and down or using a rectangular template on the lens camera to record the movie. I've seen several films and videos in widescreen and I have always found with many faces and objects cut from above and below.
