Rather than frame large pieces of art it is often more desirable to hang the canvas freely from cables strung through grommets placed in the top and bottom of the canvas. The completed work can be hung from the top grommets and pulled reasonably tight by the bottom grommets. This video by artist Dave Martsolf shows you how best to install your grommets for a professional installation.

  • Now that you mention it I don't know why I used the ball peen hammer. In fact, I now notice that half way through the video I used the other side of the hammer. Maybe it is just that I am sometimes a klutz and hit my thumb less if I use the peen end.

  • Absolutely excellent video! Clear, concise, good camera work, excellent presentation. Thank you!!

  • @MargoDean1 Thanks so much, Margo. Glad it was of help.

  • Thanks for posting the demo! I need to put grommets in a banner and wasn't sure how to go about it. Seems very simple after watching your video.

  • @motoeric Thanks very much for your kind comments. I hope the little video helped you. - Dave

  • why are you using the peen side of the hammer it seems a little counter intuitive for that matter any hammer would do

  • I was trying to install large grommets in a bubble wrap cat crate cover. I couldn't figure out what the "anvil" piece was! Also, I ended up using a jeweler's bench block to pound on----perfect!

  • Thanks so very much---the package directions were nonexistent!

  • Thank you for posting this. I was recently looking at the kits on a retail website and curious as to exactly how they work before deciding to purchase or not.
