As I type, it is Alf's 100th birthday, so here are two clips from the 1980s of those most melodious brothers, Bob and Alf Pearson.

The first is from a documentary about the Water Rats (see how many you recognise - the narrator is Derek 'Mr and Mrs' Batey), and the second (introduced by Roy Hudd) is from the Sunderland Empire edition of "Halls of Fame" (sorry about the video rolling on this, but that's how it came to me on a disc from a friend's old VHS).

These are possibly the last TV appearances of the duo together as Bob died not long after these shows. They had worked together professionally for 56 years. So that you know which is which, Bob was the pianist.

The song they give in Sunderland (their home town) is one they had recorded many years before, and was no doubt a regular feature of their live act, and it was also a popular number for George Formby.

Do watch the clip right to the very end and enjoy Bob's lovely exit !!
