  • Great... Great... GREAT tune! A true classic! And a TRUE underrated Gem! I was about to Upload this myself... To share with YouTube! This song is really moving. A Realistic-Fiction piece of beauty...

  • A shame this song has disappeared, a strange, disturbing and uniquely beautiful song.

  • there's been plenty of coming of age movies and they work very well. I'm thinking Summer of '42, but not so many songs on that subject and this is the best one I've ever heard. I know Bromberg is still touring and I am saddened to hear that he doesn't do this song anymore. It means alot to many people and is really the song that sent me on the path of folk music so many years ago.

  • Bromberg is a great instrumentalist, and his strumming of simple chords is still somehow a step above, but, as robertcataldo asks: where did David get that great lyric?

He's not a great singer, but the second time he sings "Without the grace of tears, Sammy sucks it all inside..." just kills me everytime.

  • my name is sammy and my dads name is david...isn't that strange

  • all he wants is that pussy. . . .. . then love

  • One of my favorite Bromberg songs.... Very visual

  • I used to listen to this album and this song throughout high school. Great stuff.

  • This is the best song David ever wrote. Such an amazing song. Dylan is still kicking himself over this song, ( while he plays harmonica ). He never plays, has outright refused to. I saw him alot in Chicago in the 80's. I asked him why he never played it. "It's a hard song to play. It demands a lot of honesty to play it right." Thanks so much for posting this up. Few songs are this tender, painful, gentle, and true.

  • don't know who put this up, but could you put on Delia from the same album? Can't believe no one has yet.....it's a great song as well...

  • is this song somewhat of a fluke? I have a record a friend gave to me and this is far and away the best song. some of the other songs are even a bit corny. Really, its one of the best narrative songs I've ever heard. Nothing else by him seems to come close. help me out here.

  • Theres never been another song quite like it.
