  • I am doing mine on a 96 z71 5.7L well its a 383 but same intake.

I broke mine right off! same as yours. I guess it was made from Zinc. I bought a tool that gm made called heater hose repair tool! No joke Its made to pull it out like an easy -out tool. 20 bucks and not hack saw just pound it in the middle to dig the teeth in and turn it with a 5/8 I will video and see if this works!hahahahah

  • Well goddamn I wish I knew about that tool last year! Thanks for the info, I'm sure others will be thankful as well. At least with the Z71 it will be easy to get at the engine, this van pisses me off because it needs rings but I have to take the whole bloody engine out to do it! GRRR

  • Unfortunately none of the parts on that engine were designed to last this long and the fact that they have is little short of a miracle. Let us know how it turns out, that is one repair I would not tackle myself.

  • I already did the oil and took the crappy stepping board off the driver side today...decided to leave it for another day.

  • Sweet vid, first time i've seen an Astro engine with the doghouse off. Good luck with that and look forward to seeing her running again,

  • I was actually kind of scared to take that thing off but it's pretty easy once you do it. Only four screws and two clips.

  • We know all about owning old vehicles! We have THREE. And none of them are newer than 1989, lol. We buy the ones we know we can fix, and then we swear at them when they break down, hahaha!

  • GM products are great when they are new, but they were always engineered to be "good enough" instead of superior, so the inevitable happens... I only bought the Pontiac van because the Chrysler minivans that I could afford were those made in the years when they had bad transmissions, and rebuilds on trannys are a lot more costly than a few typical little GM things that wear out...

It's too bad that so many manufacturers make things "good enough" to last only a few years...

  • And they wonder why GM is going down the tube.

Bloody cheaply horribly built American/Chinese/Mexican/Malaysian ? crap.

I got one and it's no better.

Designed to fail and cost an arm and a leg to fix.

  • Yep the people who design these things need a shake...

  • At least you've got some nice weather coming =)

  • I drive a 1989 Chevy Cavalierre.

    Only 128,000 miles on it.

    That's good got 20 y.o.

    Mooz

  • I still can't believe yours was still waiting for you when you got back hahahah
