"Real Time" guest Anthony Bourdain says what I've been saying for a while (and as an American college student who spent the last year as a dishwasher, have seen first-hand), that immigrants understand the American Dream better than most Americans do.

*I didn't post this video to brew any controversy, so please try to refrain from making inflammatory comments. Thanks.*

  • I'd walk in and apply for a dishwashing job, and I have. Hey it's a job.

  • @Kike1316 You're talking about people who are in the US alone, people that are here with their families are a different story, ask one of them if they can survive on minimum wage and supporting two kids in the states, now I'm speaking from experience.

  • "No one understands the American dream better nowadays than an Indian, Chinese or Mexican as far as I'm concerned." Fantastic point, a case-in-point.

  • @Kike1316 $500 after or befor gas.eletice and water?

if after 500 a month i can live on

  • There's certain jobs I won't do, but not out of arrogance, but simply because of my own personality flaws. I'm not a people-person. I'm shy, and often mumble. So anything dealing with customer-service I wouldn't be good at. I typically work in warehouses, or other jobs like that where I only have to get to know my co-workers, and can focus on completing my tasks. It's not because I think I'm 'too good' to do certain jobs, it's more because I'd be terrible at it...

  • @jeterlover03 They are happy because they send the money over to their own country, its worth more there then it will ever be here, Im speaking from experience.

  • @Kike1316 I guess what I was also trying to say and didn't get across is that a lot of immigrants do make minimum wage and get buy with that. They're just a lot more satisfied with Food/Clothing/Shelter/ and maybe a few small liberties. Whereas most Americans need wifi/cable/security systems/flat screen TVs/Rachael Ray's cook books and frying pans....

  • @jeterlover03 I completely understand your point, its the consumer lifestyle that wants us to make more and more, but where I live now the minimum pay is $7.25/hr, 40 hrs per week you get roughly $246 after taxes every week, monthly its about $984. Rent here is $400 for a studio, $650 for a one bedroom, you're left with either $500 or $334 to spend on living expenses depending on which apartment you choose. If anyone can get by with that kind of money then god bless you, you have beat the system

  • @Kike1316 Here's the problem I have with that...people think the pay is menial, but it's really not. It's just their expectations and cost of living exceeds their pay. Someone from Mexico would work that menial job, take that menial pay, do the job better than you or I, and be happy with that pay. Americans dissatisfaction with jobs and pay all goes back to consumerism and life style choices...everyone wants a Mercedes, and ipad, an iphone to go with their ipad, and shit & junk they don't need.

  • @nitewolf89 I don't think that's necessarily true...I know a lot of middle class kids, working class, rich, poor, etc all kinds of teens, tweens, adults, whomever, that don't want to work in the service industry/industrial jobs/ start entry level. People are consumed by the idea of instant gratification in this country!
