  • I know eric johnson uses these....but dosent he use the voicings that are spread out more?

  • Did I say he ONLY uses these? He might use these and then some. He does it all in other words.

  • @johnhguitar Oh no i was just trying to figure out an easier way to do chords then sitting down with this dmn book and learning 50 dofferent patterns....seems like there sonly 7 different basic patterns in all though....and I understand a chord is a 1st 5th and then you add to that in most cases to make other chords[i think? lol ]...im just trying to find a different way to look at it...thats all :)

  • I had an early Johnny Smith book about chords and it had what I now call The Jazz Chord System for building guitar chords. It's a systematic way of organizing the fretboard and you build and workout your chords from there. Once you see the layout you don't feel so lost with all the possibilities. Try and find a good book that's not too deep like something that gives mainly the fundamentals. Go into a store that has books and ask the salesperson to help you.

  • you explain too fast :(..

  • Start at the beginning of course 1 on the website (this is near the end of course 2). If necessary, use the pause button.

  • Very succinct and well done. Thanks for the tips, man. I learned something.

  • thanks

  • I've loved music all my life and always wish I could read and play intriguing melodies from Bossa Nova, Malian and Baroque greats...but I've decided to leave it to the experts. This lesson reminds me too much of my nemisis 'Applied Calculus' ! :) Be Good Johnny!

  • Scrap that, I got it wrong. It was actually and E, don't know why I thought it was an F? Must have forgotten the D# or something. I must have checked that about half a dozen times. Anyhow, crisis over.

  • Hi John, Thanks for the video, it was helpful. I have a question. My chord book lists the G9 chord, under the key of G as containing an F but should this not be an F# because that's the 9th note in the G maj scale? This had confused me. It would be really great if you could help me with this. All the best.
