my motorized laser mount for 3d scanning with speed control. Tilts the laser up and down more accurately and smoothly. On the video it's loud and fast only for dramatic effects. If shown in the slower scanning speed, you won't be able to see the tilting motion as easily.

I can scan any object to scan in 3d, then use my 3 axis CNC machine I design and built and make replicas...it didn't cost me a thing using only spare parts. You probably can't comprehend any of this, huh? Let's see what stuff you can make!

  • Ya, I'm using DAVID software. I made this motorized scanner so I can capture scans more smoothly than by hand. It works fine, can use tweaking of course but haven't really had issues with the software neither. I'll eventually make a better version out of better materials anyways.

  • Hi Nicanor76,

Can you discuss a little bit about how your get your laser data into G-Code?

I'm on the verge of purchasing a 4 axis router. One of the things I want to do is peoples faces.

Has anybody come out with opaque contact lenses so faces can be scanned with eyes opened?

  • the only issues that I see w/ it is that it's noisy & looks flimsy, I might be wrong on both accounts, but other then that it's great.

  • Nice wall scanner

  • One other question, I would have expected that a translation movement up and down would be better than a rotational movement because a beam coming from a single point would be less likely to reach into overhangs and undercuts than one that swept along a line. Is this not so?

  • worm gear? Very clever.

What scanner is it for? I got here by searching for "David 3d scanner" Do you use this? Does it seem to work much better if you sweep the laser line at a constant rate? What are you trying to achieve with this?

The best possible use I would expect could be made of automated motor controls for a scanning system like this, would be in rotating a turntable. Combine that with a device like you have here for sweeping the laser and you may have fully automated home scanning.
