Not just lip synched, even the orchestra was prerecorded! None of this was live. However, it was decided that doing it live in that venue was too acoustically impossible to manage. It was done more for the orchestra than for Houston.
They did not do it because she could not have done it live. She certainly could. That is why she was a master. And that is why this lip synch is just trivial.

Four dislikes? Okay, seriously, WHO disliked this performance? It's the best rendition of the U.S. national anthem I've ever heard. Sure beats the pants off of some other singers who can't even remember all the lyrics (*cough* Steven Tyler and Christina Aguilera *cough*)! And, of course, like so many others right now, I'm on a Whitney Houston music video hunt due to her untimely passing. :`( It's still unreal...
