Found a couple of wire coathangers and a length of wood and connected it up to the plasma driver. Fairly crude setup, but it does look cool in the dark :) The sound quality is not as good as it could be, due to the poor finish on the vertical electrodes of the ladder. This causes unwanted audio distortion, as the plasma arc is pulled upwards. Stainless or hard chrome-plated steel would be ideal. Notice the 'Gabriel Electrode' & high voltage resistor at the bottom of the ladder, to aid starting.

What is the value and what wattage is the resistor?

  • @dkuriloff 470K / 5 Watt ;)

  • farelly impressive sound volume and quality. Well done. Schematics would be appreciated, but im pretty sure you dont give them out.

Bit skeptic though, after the beeps from the audio input have stopped and music begins to play, you can see in the reflection of the clock there is no spark anywhere along the coat hangers....no spark....no music shouldnt that be?

unless you get shorting in your flyback?

  • The arc will have been stuck at the top of the ladder at this point - this happens often during the video ;)

  • If you look at it sideways it looks like a little glowing man dancing up the wire... Awesome device you got there.

  • That thing is gigantic!

  • @guisoneka

    Yes that's a flyback there.

  • @globalmaster90

All the sound comes from the plasma arc.

  • I'd love to hear Electricity from Automation on this setup (if you still have it somewhere). SUTT1975 has it on youtube. Pretty similar music to this, oldschool classic.

  • @guisoneka yes hes using a flyback

  • What is this track? I like it!

  • MUSIC ELECTRIC

  • Hallo,

how much power does it need (mean)? And what tempearture has the transformer core after few minutes of run? ;-)

  • very nice! is that a diode split transformer?

  • I see that you have wound your primary coil around the exposed core. Am I right?
