Gospel of John. Randall Niles looks at Logos, who became flesh and lived among us.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. (John 1:1-2)

Word comes from the Greek, Logos.

Greeks used Logos not only for the spoken word, but also the unspoken word, the word still in the mind the reason. When applied to the universe, Greeks were speaking to the rational principle that governs all things.

A Greek philosopher named Heraclitus first used the term Logos in the 6th century BC to describe the divine reason, or plan, which coordinates the entire cosmos.

Monotheistic Jews later used the word to refer to God, since He was the rational mind reason behind the creation and coordination of the universe.

Thus, the gospel-writer, John, used a very special word, Logos, to introduce his account of Jesus Christ. Logos was a very meaningful descriptor for both the Jews and the Greeks

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

  • Very interesting :).

  • Question? When was the gospel of John written? Why does he use different passages in scripture's then the orginal gospels? for instance, How he no jesus said it is finished? Why didn't it say it at matthew or Mark? Was John there at the Cross when Jesus being crucified? Where did John get all his information about Christ? Why does he change it up?

  • unbelivebe stup.....ignorant. wow same waste as everybody else; no brains.

  • You missed the whole message. You need to read further in the text. Telling that God is the creator is not the gosple. Being born of God is the Gosple.

When you preceed and come forth from the spirit of God, as Jesus did, you then and only then know that God is your creator, because you have been recreated.

This same gosple is told over and over in John. Jesus said of himself that he was sent by God's power, not his own. And proved it to Thomas.

Thomas touched him, he was not a ghost...
