First up, thanks to ZOMBIE from the SSS for the Japanese footage used.

Time to highlight a man that a lot of us probably grew up watching, either in WCW, WWF, or even as far back as his days in Memphis. The Macho Man, Randy Savage, was born to Angelo Poffo, a pro wrestler himself. Savage would grow up watching his dad, and after a stint in minor league baseball, Savage decided to become a wrestler. After some slight success, he would join his father's promotion, International Championship Wrestling. ICW was considered an outlaw promotion, though despite the label, it simply meant they weren't associated with the NWA, essentially making them what we would call an Independent federation today. The promotion would lead to Savage's feuds with the Rock & Roll Express, and after the promotion went under, Savage would meet Jerry Lawler in a legendary feud. The feud would culminate in a Loser Leaves Town Match, which would be the result of Savage signing with the WWF. In the WWF, Savage began searching for a manager, eventually choosing Miss Elizabeth. His treatment of her solidified his heel run. He would win the Intercontinental Title, and entered a feud with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. The feud would peek at Wrestlemania III in an amazing match that still holds up as a classic today. Following the match, fans began cheering Savage, and it grew as he set his sights on the WWF Title. At Wrestlemania IV, he would run through a tournament, topped off by defeating Ted DiBiase to win the belt. Aligning himself with Hulk Hogan, the two looked unstoppable. However, Hogan taking Elizabeth as his manager began to drive the two apart, and after another incident in which Hogan left Macho in the ring with the Twin Towers, the two were no longer a team. The differences were settled at Wrestlemania V, when Hogan ended Savage's year long reign. Macho would rebound by winning the King monicker from Jim Duggan, and proclaimed himself to be the Macho King, taking Sherri Martel as his queen. He set his sights on the Ultimate Warrior and the WWF Title, but Warrior refused the challenge. After costing him the belt, Warrior challenged Savage to put his career on the line. The two met at Wrestlemania VII, and Savage lost in another classic bout. Queen Sherri began berating and assaulting Savage until Elizabeth made the save. After a few tense minutes, the two reunited in the middle of the ring. Following his "retirement", Savage traveled to Japan to compete for the SWS promotion. He then entered a feud with Jake Roberts, eventually being reinstated to finish the business. He would hang around more, and won the WWF Title once again. After losing the belt, he would retire once again, and provided commentary before leaving the WWF for WCW in 1994. In WCW, he began a campaign for the WCW World Title, and would win it from Ric Flair in 1995. After a lengthy leave of absence, he returned, joining the NWO, and entering a long feud with Diamond Dallas Page. After the NWO disbanded, Savage would become a loner, often picking fights just for the sake of doing so. He would win the WCW Title briefly again before disappearing one last time. Nearly four years later, he joined TNA ever so briefly before leaving the wrestling world again. In May of 2011, Savage would tragically pass away in a one vehicle accident. Few have enjoyed the lengthy success that Randy Savage enjoyed over the course of his career. He used the Double Axe Handle extensively, even diving to the floor to hit the move. Savage also had world class punches(wrestling wise). His career long finishing move of choice was the Flying Elbow Drop, and very few have ever duplicated his near perfect form.

  • I can't believe this didn't have Randy's move where he grabs the back of a person's head and jumps to the outside of the ring, choking them on the top rope.

  • I actually delayed this for about three weeks just to find a usable shot of it, but after so long, I decided to just go with what was there.

  • I need to see the whole match of Liger vs Savage, when the hell did that happen?

  • 1996

  • Jesus, some of this is old. Where do you FIND this?

  • I found the Cage Match on a DVD I bought at Wal-Mart for a buck, actually. The other Memphis era stuff came from a compilation DVD.

  • R.I.P. Randy Savage

  • Yeah, that spot where he leaps over the top rope and closelines the guy is definitely a top ten. Moreso then the airplane spin that's for sure! Lol!

  • Just watching this puts a smile on my face, because this T-10 shows how unique Savage was as both a character and a wrestler. I don't know one person who watched The "Macho Man" in his matches or promos and wasn't left entertained. Just an awesome wrestler. OOOHH, YEE-EAAHH!!

  • another great top 10, i always love how you show no spoilers in any of your vids

  • @GreatGarloo word. Long Live THE MACHO MAN!
