A fairly obscure one - Roy Orbison sings "Far Far Away", from the album 'Roy Orbison Sings Don Gibson'. Released in 1967, the song was recorded earlier, possibly as early as 1960. It's not a 'Blue Angel' or 'Evergreen', but it's still good - and it's got a nice piano break.

  • Lots of people are surprised at these songs of Orbison's because they were released in a period where his fans were still buying his records but no one else was. They couldn't get airplay even though the competition was, in many cases, influenced by DJs who didn't know jack about music (and most of whom still don't). There are many more than just this one. Neil Diamond had a period similarly, but many of his songs WERE terrible.

  • Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Think you're right about the DJs...

  • New for me--so good!

  • Not one you hear very often!
