How to beat an aikido master: do NOT try to hit him. Wait until he gets bored and falls asleep. It's your only chance.

@ICR68 My dentist is 65 years old and is the oldest qualified Cobra instructor in Britain he's a 3rd degree blackbelt but has only been practising (any form) for 5 years and is only 5ft 4" making him easily overpowered. My point is that he drives a Bentley GT making him a nice target, not that long ago he was mugged by 3 youths getting out of his car in his driveway, he knocked unconscious 2 of them and the other he used an elbow drop into an arm lock and simply waited for the police.

I've been doing karate and aikido for about 5 years, and i was feeling a little sad cause i was still so inexperienced in comparison to guys like this. But then i remembered, beginners mind and learning it fresh is some of the best fun you can have!

There's something obnoxious about this demonstration - all the flourishing with the hands and the jo. Don't get me wrong, the sensei is really wonderfully talented - but this is incredibly dramatic. The aikido I practiced wasn't like this. It was serene. Uncomplicated. And utterly devastating.

Believe me, when the sensei begins a move on you, you have no choice but to go with it - the alternative would be excruciating pain or broken limbs. If you didn't know how to fall properly - like the average thug on the street - you would be in BIG trouble. Aikido is devastatingly effective.

I've just started Aidkido, and yes the "throws" are real, although they're not really throws, more like monopolising on your partners unbalanced state....sometimes the "throws" they may look fake or exaggerated, but part of aikido training is being taught how to land properly. Seriously,if you don't learn how to,there's a good chance you could brake something!!!!!
