  • @shiwankhan Actually, as said in "The Offspring", he CAN'T use them in everyday speech. When quoting someone, yes. But when he's just talking, no. "I'm fine." was a mistake on the show's part. It's not his choice.

And, however much I hate to say this, technically, Data IS a machine. A sentient being who just happens to be a machine. But, as Picard said, humans are just a different sort of machine.

Were I less mature, I might point a finger at you and, laughing, cry, "Who's the idiot now?"

  • Idiot, Data can make contractions when he's quoting something. It's not like he's totally incapable of doing it, he just makes the choice not to in his everyday speech. He's a sentient being, not just a machine. Don't believe me? Watch "In Theory" where he says "Honey, I'm home!" "I'll join you", and "You're not my mother!" to his girlfriend. Also in "The Big Goodbye" he uses them while he's in character on the holodeck. Oh, and at the end of "Datalore", he tells Wesley "I'm fine."

    Take that.

  • They SO shouldn't have had DATA say that line!!! There is a contraction in it, thus Data shouldn't have been ABLE to say it. He's not Lore--HELLO!!!
