I think you find these "honour" crimes mostly in collective societies. With people with high sense of keeping the family/clan name clean. They believe that somehow by killing someone who brought dishonour to their family will eliminate that dishonour in itself. And we shouldn't stop at men killing women. I have heard cases of sons killed. Although they don't make it to the headlines much. Simply I think it is general lack of education. Any society can break free from this if they are educated.

I am an Arab young woman. This story has nothing to do with Islam. Actually Islam is against the so-called honor killing. Although Unfortunatly honor-killing is a problem. You usually find that mentality in poor or highly conservative families. Mind you conservative does not equal religious. Or in a part of the Arab world where it is male-central mentality. And in the past 5 years I would say. The Arabic population have increased thier fight and public speaking out about these crimes.

It's not just stereotype... There is truth to some of it... and the queen is a case in point. One cannot post comments directly. They have to be approved. None of my comments are approved because they ask whey the "queen" refuses to address the issue of class. Yes, there is the whole gender thing which caters to Western fantasies, but what about class? what about her excessive wardrobe?

arabs are crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. The dummiest thing Israel did is pull the international community's empathy against it, by the massive detestation they caused in Gaza, instead of offering them a decent life, they gained more enemies than friends. Economic stability is a good step to start with. Let's dream Israel adopts your way of thinking.....

I'm not blaming the PA totally, but c'mon, they haven't always had the best interest of the people at heart. Just as Israel's government hasn't lately. we must agree to disagree in some areas, and work out others. Reality setting in, we must help the economic lot of Palestinians. Because if you have money, a stable job, a stable environment and a house, why are you going to turn to radicalism? Perhaps improving their economies first will help Palestinians more than a state? What do you think?

With this I agree. We are the only creatures who fall in the same ditch twice. It is sad to see suffering and pain. This is not what is supposed to happen. But let's be realists. Hate is real. Power struggles are real. The only way to get passed them is to recognize that the other side is as human as you are. I do believe Israel knows this. And I do believe man Palestinians know this as well. But the governing bodies don't, as in the PA.

Fair game? How can you say that? Do you not remember history? Egypt and Jordan both had issues with Israel, and yet now Israel has peace agreements with both! What is it that Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom have that the PA does not? It's not a matter of throwing down weapons to be destroyed. This isn't a Crusade. This is the self-determination of a people, just as much as "Palestinians". But there canot be peace without one recognizing the other, and I mean Hamas. Hamas is unwilling to do that.

Suffering is awful indeed. Every human is entitled for a normal safe life.... Human beings are so greedy.... I'm starting to lose faith in all humanity.... people could be mush happier if they let go of greed. We live on a beautiful earth and fight over it as if it belongs to anyone... instead of living in peace and harmony.... how stupid is that!! waste life on war...... no other creature could be as stupid I guess. Imagine if all the people sharing all the world.... just imagine.....
-
what you are asking for is for Hamas to throw down their weapons, live under siege and occupation until they drain to death, along with the 1.5 million creatures living in conditions that are not suitable even for animals... PA fight for their right of survival dragging the attention of Israelis and the world with the rockets.. this is called rebellion against oppression..... Israel does not keep a promise but Hamas has to give up its rights and the rights of the people.. fair game!

Credible reports noted that they weren't phosphoric bombs. War crimes? Oh wait, you mean the "disproportionate retaliation" of Israel? Get a grip man. 8 years of bombing compared to three weeks. And these Westen doctors of course experienced terrible circumstances, but in the heat of war. These people were not civilians but combatants. And I just want to add one more thing. If Israel did soooooooo much damage, why has Hamas not CEASED to bombard southern Israel? Go figure...
So, what I am trying to say in terms of Saudi's barbaric ways is that it is a very new counyry and it needs time to develop and flourish. I don't think it is because it is a Muslim country. Jus look at other Muslim countries like Pakistan, Turkey, Lebanon, Indonesia, Morocco and Tunisia. They are older and not nearly as barbaric. Of course many Arab countries are poor and have a lot of corruption. However,I don't believe that's based on the religion either.

I understand the point that you are making but I would draw a distinction between governments and what they are seeking to achieve and the attitude of some people within the countries that can only be described as barbaric. Examples? Those Moslems who went on the rampage in Indonesia beheading Christians on one of their islands. The disturbing practice of young girls being taken from the UK by their families and forcibly married against their will in Pakistan.

As an Arab I think that report is disturbing and disgusting. Saudi is the most extreme of the Arab countries. Yes it is barbaric. However, It is also a very new country. In England is much older and more developed than Saudi. However, back in the dark ages or Victorian times, it was legal for men o beat their wives with sticks and put cages on their faces. Women were also deemed as witches and killed. Now is, what I believe, the dark age for Saudi. The people in the country are still tribal.

Bad behaviour is essentially something for which the individual must take responsibility. Terrible things are still done in the UK in this 21st Century. True the law may have become more enlightened over the years but people are still capable of great acts of cruelty. In the UK Christian reformers have been in the forefront of campaigns and changes in the law over the past 300 years or so to see a fairer and less cruel society. However, much work remains to be done.
