This is kind of a review of Avatar's B112 Bass Speaker Cabinet. It shows the cabinet and features briefly and how it sounds with a MarkBass Mini Mark II. It has been a good cabinet for me on small gigs.

  • How would this stack with a 1x15? I'm using a 500 watt carvin BX500 head which I think sounds slightly similar to the Markbass. I play hard rock if that's any help.

  • @razormusik I honestly don't think you would be happy for hard rock. See what scarred2112 said below. I agree with him overall. Personally, I don't like 12"s for hard rock. Their sound is more mid-range. Don't sound pleasant to me. Bass will stick out but I don't feel support band well. Just my feeling. Only cab of that type I thought would work I've heard is the Genz Benz NEOX-212T. I like an Ampeg 610 for hard rock. Tight/big sound. 2x15 has worked too. How is the BX500? U like?

  • The cabinet is only standing on end when I give close up views of it and talk about the specs. It is tested like you said on its side. I agree they sound best that way. I never cared for how it sounded standing tall with the port at the bottom. However, some people probably like it that way.

  • No. I've run both these cabs for a casino gig and I would have rather had my 610 cab or even a 410. That was just a cover band gig. These were growly enough but I doubt I could have turned up much more and I was using the 500 watt MarkBass amp I use in the video. I would get at least a 410 or larger. Metal bands need a lot of bass support and you are usually fighting for frequency with 2 guitars. I like cabs with 10" speakers best for punching through.

  • All this overgeneralizing about driver size is ridiculous! box tuning and port size have more to do with the tonal character of a cabinet than the size of the driver.

  • Thanks for the review! :)

  • Add a bit of hot chili source to those noodles

  • what is a noodler

  • I own 3 Avatar Bass cabinets and they are well made and have the same or better Eminence speakers as in other major brands. They are fairly priced because Avatar sells direct to musicians and does not have distributor and music stores to mark up the costs. Last year my 2-19 Neo cabinet cost me $319 now it is $349-an Ampeg is over $600 and it has the same speakers. Avatar made in USA, too. Good video.

  • I use one of these cabs with a GK400RB for upright bass and the sound is incredibly warm. A bass player buddy at a recent jazz gig loved the rig and said that it "sounded so much like a...well, a bass". He went on to explain that it really sounded like the natural sound of the upright. For slightly louder gigs I add an Avatar 210 in a stack, both 8 ohms to give 4 ohms total. Very sweet and warm. Still, it's all jazz and relatively quiet.

  • @razormusik I have a BX500 with an Avatar Neo 112 and 210. They sound great seperate and together. I don't like 15's because of their lack of detail. Both of my cabs are 4 ohms which works out due to the Carvin going to 2 ohms. I back off the tweeter a lot these days and get any sound I want from this rig.

  • I never did like using 12s for bass. I like (for bass and guitar actually) an equal number of 15" and 10" drivers. It makes the sound fuller, and yet leaves the vocal frequencies fairly uncluttered for the vocals. Mixing is like a 4-lane highway, you can't have everyone driving in the same lane, but with a 15 for bass, and a 10 for guitar, and a dynamic mic on vocals keeping them front and center, it all sounds good, clear, and discernible. Everything is heard well and sounds how it should.
