Today on this 2009 Chevy 3500 HD Pickup we will be installing Westin running boards part number 26-1400. The first thing we are going to do in preparation is to go ahead and lay out all of our hardware and make sure that all of the components are there. The next step is to go ahead and remove the existing body mount bolts from the underside of the cab. There are two. You can see one here at the front right at the hinge portion of the front door and then one here more towards the middle section on 05 and older models you will need to actually remove these bolts and use new hardware. On 06 and up models we are actually going to be reusing these body mount bolts.

You will notice that the rubber spacer will likely come out as well and that is okay. Next we are going to go ahead and install the mounting brackets themselves along with the spacer tubes. The front most mounting bracket will be the one that we are going to be using the spacer tube on. That is going to install just like that. If your rubber spacer did come out when you removed your bolt you will need to put that back up into place as well. Being a newer I am going to reuse the existing bolt so we do not have to worry about adding any flat washers or lock washers as well. We want to make sure that we have the open portion of the bracket facing the front of the vehicle. 01:31

I am just going to snug that up for the time being until we make our final adjustments and then we can go ahead and tighten it down fully. Then we are going to install the mounting bracket at the rear body mount. This particular location we will not be using the spacer. Next we can go ahead and install our running board. You will note that there is a slight difference in between the two running boards. To figure out which one is which you can set them up and note there is a slight variance at the ends of the legs here. You want the longer side of the leg towards the rear of the vehicle. Using the 1/ 2 by 13 by 1 3/ 4 inch hex head bolt along with the flat washer and lock washer we are going to be ing that from the inside of the bracket through the oblong hole here and threading it to the weld nut here on the back side of the running board. Okay, with the running board loosely installed onto the brackets we can go ahead and actually open our door. Again with there being oblong holes in the bracket we have got some variance where we can mount the running board. So what you want to do for your personal preference go ahead and set up the pad where you want it in reference to the floor board. Once you have got that figured out you can go ahead and start tightening your bolts down going into the running board and then we will go back through and torque all of our bolts down. Okay and now we are going to go ahead and torque our bolts down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for both sets of bolts. This will conclude the installation of Westin running board part number 26-1400 on a 2009 Chevy 3500 HD Pickup.03:22

  • @MassillonJoe You can visit etrailer(dot)com to find running boards for your truck, by entering the year, make, and model of your vehicle. All of our products are designed to be self-installed, which might save you some money. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • I just purchased a 2011 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. I want to get running boards, tint my driver and passenger windows, and also get window visors. Anyone have a ballpark estimate for all that installed??
