The golden sky preceding the sunrise was envisoned as a sky-cow that gave birth to the sun-calf (Golden Calf). She was called Nut or Hathor. Hathor's epithet was NUBT "the golden" an allusion possibly to the golden sky at sunrise.

Thanks for the sunrise shots, the Egyptians understood that the sun at sunrise was the Golden Calf. Pharaoh declared he was the Golden Calf aboard the solar bark or boat that carried the sun across the heavens on an invisible Nile. By sunset the sun-calf had become a mature sun-bull who mounted his mother the cow-sky-goddess Hathor, impregnating her to be born again as the Golden Calf at the next sun rise.
